For Immediate Release: Freedom First International and activist will Meet to Demand Resignation and criminal Investigation of Alderman Ed Burke
On Wednesday morning (June 12, 2019) 9:30am at City Hall Freedom First International and other community activist will ask for a formal resignation from disgraced Alderman Ed Burke and also investigation for multiple violations one of Chicago’s gun-free zones by keeping guns in his city hall offices. The Protest and Press Briefing is called “Say No Corruption.”
After resigning from office after being charged with attempted extortion late last year in federal court, 23 guns were seized from the disgraced politician’s office. The group is aware that as Chicago’s longest-serving alderman Burke was recently charged under a racketeering law normally reserved for mobsters. While Burke has not been convicted-the activist believe the 14-count indictment the the Disgraced Alderman currently facing is more reason for Burke to stepdown.
The Group of activist is urging Many Chicago locals and Federal Law Enforcement Officials to do a double take and revisit the issues surrounding the Alderman’s position and usage of the Gun Buyback program. Also this morning the group send a letter to the US Attorney Northern District Office for case review.
When federal prosecutors announced November 29, 2018 that investigators had found nearly two dozen guns not in his home but in his office and sources told news reporters the weapons were at least at one time on display in cases at his office at City Hall.
For the record-signs posted outside prohibit anyone – even a concealed carry permit holder – from bringing a gun into the government building, but as an alderman, Burke may have enjoyed special privileges.
Background
While in office, Burke has pushed to outlaw cell phone cases that were shaped like guns, advocated punishing the parents of youth who have firearms, ban guns from protests, and proposed a measure to require financial institutions working with the city to file a “Safe Guns Policy” affidavit vouching that their other business customers adhere to a list of firearm regulations such as prohibiting the sale of “high-capacity magazines” or barring gun sales to those under 21.
According to WBBM, an 1872 law designated aldermen as “peace officers.” This designation may have allowed Burke to keep so many weapons inside City Hall-in a city known for having some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation. In addition to this law, Burke was also a licensed private detective and private security contractor, and had a valid Firearms Control Card.
While many of the guns Burke had in his office were historic, it should be noted that around November of 2018 Burke had encouraged Chicago residents to hand over their own historic firearms. “Any of those guns that are sitting in your closet that some relative might have brought back from the First World War, Second World War, Korea, bring them in get your 100 bucks get those guns off the street,” he said.
Possible Violations
Freedom First International and other activist believe Alderman Burke also appears to have violated one of Chicago’s many gun-free zones by keeping guns in his city hall offices.
Alderman Burke, the embodiment of the city’s corrupt political machine, a man who had campaigned for decades on gun control and Second Amendment restrictions, was found to have 23 firearms in his office.
