Freedom First International
The Freedom First International was originally formed in 2009 and is an international non-governmental organization that conducts research and advocacy on human rights. Headquartered in Chicago, IL with scheduled offices in New York City, United Kingdom, and Liberia. The main aim was to advance the cause of civil rights, human rights and Social Justice in America in relation to liberation from unjust economic, political, or social conditions. It has been described as “an interpretation of Christian faith through the poor’s suffering, their struggle and hope, and a critique of society as an example “Christianity through the eyes of the poor” From its inception, this has been the vision of President/Founder Gregg L Greer
As its title suggests “Freedom First,”, was born out of a rich civil rights tradition because it’s founder Gregg L. Greer wanted to help preserve the legacy of (S.C.L.C)- Southern Christian Leadership Conference came primarily from the respect for the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (above). In late 2009 while attending at Southern Christian Leadership Conference Meeting at Historical Ebenezer Baptist Church (which was founded 1960 Dr. King, Jr. became a co-pastor of Ebenezer with his father, “Daddy” King. He remained in that position until his death in 1968) Greer found the vision.

Greer started the Freedom First International as an initiative that searches for ideas that help bring social change by connecting thousands of people from all around the world believing that church leadership should play a major part in the lives of all, and church leaders should play a more significant role in communities around the world. First Freedom International was also influenced by an existing social theory that emphasizes of practice (or, more technically, “praxis”) over doctrine in the church which included Servant Christian base communities (SCBCs). Liberation Theology is the guiding principle of Freedom First, as it strives to be a bottom-up movement in practice, with Biblical interpretation and practice designed by lay practitioners themselves, rather than by the hierarchy.
