STATEMENT ON JUSTICE FOR LAQUAN MCDONALD-CONVICTION OF POLICE OFFICER (Media Advisory) FFI

Two days ago the jury decide to convict officer Van dyke for multiple counts including the second degree murder of Laquan McDonald-normally this would close a chapter in a bad situation that took a young life of  17-year-old Laquan McDonald. Officer Van Dyke was also found guilty of 16 counts of aggravated battery with a firearm.

With the conviction of Officer Jason Va Dyke, we at Freedom First Intentional believe- that with what happened inside the jury deliberation room, the main debate was truly not about whether to acquit or convict, We never doubted that officer Van Dyke was guilty of murder.

In truth jurors were split on whether to find Officer Van Dyke guilty of first-degree murder, or second but even by standard-we at Freedom first International believe that officer Van Dyke is merely a poster boy for a long term generational police force that has long misused and abused a underrepresented populous. We ask these questions:

How long does the black community have to struggle to address the long-term systematic genocide that simply reiterates the known fact that our community has been so powerfully underwritten or even written off by those seeking to maintain the status quo?

Yes, in truth, the deep-rooted class system that has existed for hundreds of years is still very much in play in Chicago and around the country to date. Racial inequality in America has its parallel in a class inequality system, even though by definition, race and class are not the same thing.

The class system, for the record, is a defined system of stratification based on economic position in which people are ranked based on achievements such as education and wealth.

The Black community has to understand that the one-sided rhetoric of “law and order,” that Officer Van Dyke comes from was first used by Southern segregationists of the Jim Crow Era, has become more attractive as mainstream Americans have turned to outright racial discrimination, mostly a the urging of a President with more then questionable motives.

In truth jurors were split on whether to find Officer Van Dyke guilty of first-degree murder, or second but even by standard-we at Freedom First International believe that officer Van Dyke is merely a poster boy for a long term generational police force that long misused and abused a underrepresented black Community.

Yes, it is well documented that we at Freedom First International helped organize various protest and court support with William Calloway and others at the core of this fight. We are truly proud of our comrade William and all who stayed the course. We pray for the family of the deceased teen.

But with that in mind we reserve celebration for a time when-the long term challenges of community violence and police abuse,as well as official misconduct that plague black and poor are minimized, this cold winter we have much much more work to do-that work must not stop.

We at Freedom First International will continue to fight because-These racists need to simply own up to their ugly past of slavery and make it right by society, instead of denying, shifting blame, lying, twisting the facts and making black people into these ungodly creatures that they look down on, laugh at and yet, oddly, fear.

We would ask that everyone-Speak up against police inaction. Then, tell your child that he is protected, first by God, and then you. Afterward, we must champion our children’s rights. Then add a training session to the life lesson for your young men and women about the existence of systematic racism and oppression ― be honest with them, tell them the odds are against them, but they can overcome if they have righteous will and fortitude.

Open Letter to Sheriff Bob Gualtieri over the Florida Murder of Markeis McGlockton (Media Advisory)

Markeis-McGlockton25

Good Morning Sheriff,

After careful review of the unfortunate incident from Clearwater- I President Greg L. Greer and my team find it very hard to understand your lack of sensitivity to the issue surrounding the unfortunate death of this 28 year old young Clear water man when Michael Drejka shot Markeis McGlockton outside Circle A Food Store in Clearwater Florida.

In your press conference on July 21, 2018- You actually flouted traditional criminal justice notions to instead encourage vigilantism in this community, giving further credence to the long-held principle that individuals must first attempt escape from a violent situation by using deadly force.

This has been a bedrock of “Surreal Idealism,” with Anglo-American law for two centuries. Used perfectly against oppressed people of color but in many cases not the other way around.

We would hope that longstanding public officials such as yourself  would go further to prevent and embolden individuals from escalation of confrontation, and that would hopefully prevent future deadly confrontations more specifically whereas refereeing these issues to local authorities to prevent and decrease the likelihood of deadly exchanges. An Argument over parking space leads to fatal shooting in Clearwater is tragic on every level.
Promoting vigilantism is a very severe and negative consequence of the “Stand Your Ground,” laws-as you very well know. But as we warn, behavioral changes may not be limited to those who want the right to “Stand Your Ground.” Particularly given the facts of this case, I must warn you and all public officials that young black boys motivated by fear of adults like George Zimmerman (types) may feel compelled to “Stand Their Ground,” too, in a cycle of shoot first, or be shot.

“Does this law create a situation where people shoot first and ask questions later?” Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said in a July 28 Press Conference. “You can have that discussion. You can have that debate. I don’t make the law. I enforce the law.” “I’m not saying I agree with it,” you went on to say, “but I don’t get to make that call.”

But in all actuality sir, people such a yourself who are in high level public positions, should and could seize this very moment to create and foster a dialog that gives hope and deters others from in similarly suited situations from taking the law into their own hands. Yes, in truth you don’t make the law but we would expect you to be the best “Representative,” of that law.

In the Days ahead we (Freedom First International) along with several partner multinational organizations will urge the officials on the ground to file charges against “Vigilante” Michael Drejka in this case

In addition-my office will move forward in the days ahead to publicity sensor you, staring with this open letter to be released to multi media around the country.

Sincerely,

Bishop Gregg L.Greer, President of Freedom First International

For Immediate Release:  Chicago Community Activist will Protest local store where worker killed a Chicago Man over a bottle of beer-This Sunday!

Wines and Spirits 308 E 75th St Chicago, IL 60619

Chicago Community Activist will protest against a local store due to an unfortunate incident where the store security beat a man to death for allegedly trying to steal a bottle of bear. This incident now reported is just one incident in a flurry of incidents where people in Chicago’s black community believe businesses are taking advantage of those in Chicago-who live in poor and oppressed communities, by giving lack of service, mistreatment and everything in between leaving tensions on high.

(Recap according to information given to the Chicago Sun-times)

A security guard accused of beating a man to death last month over a stolen bottle of liquor at a Park Manor neighborhood store was denied bail Tuesday.
Christopher Emmons, 57, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Herbert Lemon, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Lemon was severely beaten by Emmons June 12 inside the liquor store at 308 E. 75th St. and died two days later, Assistant State’s Attorney Maurice Alayo said Tuesday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

The beating happened about 1:20 p.m, according to Chicago Police.  Surveillance video recorded the day before that showed Lemon stealing the bottle and followed him into the store, Alayo said. Once inside, surveillance video recorded Emmons lock the door and put on a pair of gloves. When Lemon walked up to the counter with a bottle of beer, Emmons punched him twice in the face without warning, Alayo said.

Emmons pulled Lemon deeper into the store and continued to beat Lemon even after he fell to the ground. He then lifted him to his feet and a second person punched Lemon in the face at least twice, Alayo said.
Chicago Police officers arrived, but Lemon declined to press charges on Emmons, Alayo said. Lemon was later found unresponsive in his house by his girlfriend. He was taken to a hospital and underwent brain surgery, but showed no brain activity after the operation.

He was taken off life support and died June 14.The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a homicide from multiple head injuries suffered in an assault.

The activist want people in the community to know that they are clearly entitled to fair and quality service and we as Chicago activist leadership will no longer tolerate any complaints of racism and fears of gentrification that are rising in Chicago. Meanwhile, Arab Americans have gained a foothold in the city by expanding their small business ownership after chain stores left, but they continue to struggle with their own identity, and will be unable to secure on their place in the race construct and power structure-if they don’t handle local patrons respectfully.

In any case the activist feel that no one deserves to lose their life over a cheap bottle of beer and we all believe the store should be held accountable.

For Immediate Release: Freedom First International and Chicago Activist will protest peacefully to bring attention to CTA Blue Line Store that many locals have complained on for price gouging and blatantly overcharging

June 29,2018 at 4:00 pm

Forest Park Blue Line Station-711 Desplaines Ave, Forest Park, IL 60130

A well known fact that-The Arab owned shop at The CTA (Blue Line) Forest Park has been ripping poor folks off for years-by overcharging 25% to 40% Tax on items and more.

This is disturbing especially when cook County Tax is just over 10%. Chicago Activist will protest this Friday at 4:00pm to bring notice to this store and it’s dishonest practices. Watch these stores-they sell old food and overcharge at the same time.

Bishop Gregg L.Greer  President of Freedom First International stated-“In many states, businesses are allowed a small discrepancy in overcharges. State law in North Carolina allows businesses to have a 2 percent error rate among all the items in the store. This year, five stores have been penalized so far. Last November, nine stores, including Dollar General, CVS, Target and Walgreens were fined in the state for price scanning errors. C.T.A has to do a better job in monitoring these small stores. There should be no way that-this should be a problem from a vendor that does business with the city.

Video One shows recent incident (last week) when one store employee when confronted about over charging one employee runs from camera view, the other when asked for a manger said, no manager was available and gave a contact, after some persistence.

Video Two shows locals who are aware of the store deceptive practices and discuss his experiences and also that fact that he’s aware of the stores overcharging for at least two years.

Satish C. Sekar and Bishop Gregg L.Greer will address two issues first is the Death Penalty -In early May Governor Bruce Rauner proposed reinstating the death penalty in Illinois for mass killers and people who slay law enforcement officers, injecting the idea into his re-election campaign by rewriting a gun control bill and sending it back to lawmakers. Satish is filming a documentary with One World Transatlantic Global Media and also plans to meet and greet with local human rights groups including Amnesty International.

Satish C. Sekar (born September 1963) is a British author and journalist, and a consultant in forensic evidence. Sekar has specialized since the 1990s in the investigation of miscarriages of justice. His work has been published in newspapers including The Guardian, The Independent and Private Eye, and he has also worked for television documentaries including Panorama and Trial And Error. He has worked on a number of high-profile cases in the UK including the Cardiff Newsagent Three, Gary Mills and Tony Poole (wrongly convicted in 1990 for the murder of Hensley Wiltshire), the M25 Three, and Michelle and Lisa Taylor (wrongly convicted in 1992 for the murder of Alison Shaughnessy). He also worked on the case of the Merthyr Tydfil Two (Donna Clarke and Annette Hewins), presenting scientific findings to South Wales Police regarding the fire that resulted in the police’s expert accepting his conclusions that the petrol bought by Hewins that night was not the petrol used in the fatal fire.

In 1992, his work helped overturn the convictions of the Cardiff Three and while researching a book about the case, Fitted In: The Cardiff 3 and the Lynette White Inquiry, he uncovered errors in the original evaluation of forensic evidence from the crime scene. The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Criminology said that Sekar’s “extraordinary work on the case of the Cardiff 3 [put] academic criminology to shame.” Sekar is the Founder of the Fitted In Project.

“In Memoriam” Tamir Rice June 25, 2002 -November 23, 2014

This coming week would have been the 16th birthday of  Tamir Rice. Freedom First international and it’s affiliates honor his life as we worked diligently both on the ground and nationally to help fight for justice.

The shooting of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old boy (June 25, 2002 – November 23, 2014), occurred on November 22, 2014, in Cleveland, Ohio. Two police officers, 26-year-old Timothy Loehmann and 46-year-old Frank Garmback, responded after receiving a police dispatch call of a black male that “keeps pulling a gun out of his pants and pointing it at people”. A caller reported that a male was pointing “a pistol” at random people in the Cudell Recreation Center. At the beginning of the call and again in the middle he says of the pistol “it’s probably fake”.  Toward the end of the two-minute call, the caller stated “he is probably a juvenile”.

However, this information was not relayed to Loehmann or Garmback on the initial dispatch. The officers reported that upon their arrival, they both continuously yelled “show me your hands” through the open patrol car window. Loehmann further claimed that instead of showing his hands, it appeared as if Rice was trying to draw: “I knew it was a gun and I knew it was coming out”. In response, the officer shot twice, hitting Rice once in the torso. He died on the following day.

Freedom First International’s (FFI)- President Gregg L Greer worked with the family to organize a stronger media effort both on ground nationally and internationally. FFI also organized multiple rallies in Cleveland, Oh area and abroad to galvanize the public over the course of two years.

With powerful relations Freedom First International helped organize a legal team who worked separately from our advocacy effort to assist the family with successful civil litigation.  Freedom First International even organized at the United Nations (UN) and hosted an event there to bring international attention to Tamir’s case.

We wish to thank all organizers and everyone in the community who stood on the front lines to fight against this unjustified case of injustice that took a promising young life. Our prayers remain with the family.

We pray for a world were children are safe from terror and oppression. Until then we will work towards Freedom.

“In Memoriam” George Stinney Jr. October 21, 1929 -June 16, 1944

George Stinney Jr.

Freedom First International, The Guilty in Innocence Project and affiliates-honor the life of George Stinney Jr.

An African-American young boy, George Stinney Jr., who was executed at age 14 in the killing of two young white girls has been exonerated in South Carolina, 70 years after he became the youngest person executed in the U.S. in the 1900s. A judge ruled he was denied due process.

In her ruling, Circuit Judge Carmen Mullen wrote that she found that “fundamental, Constitutional violations of due process exist in the 1944 prosecution of George Stinney, Jr., and hereby vacates the judgment.”

The case was brought by George Frierson of Manning, SC and his group known as-A New Day, and afterward assistance come with testimony from Stinney’s surviving siblings.

Our organization started in 2011 working  behind the scenes and on the ground with public rallies, and well as memorials. Also addition we help galvanize the international media and some legal research to bring further attention to this case-up-to the point of his exoneration.

george-stinney-rally

Another role we primarily accepted at the time was supporting George Frierson and his group with the memorial rededication which happened on July 16, 2016.  We like to thank George Frierson, Jennifer Bowers Olin, the Stinney Family and all organizations and advocates who helped overturn Georges conviction.

On December 17, 2014, his conviction was posthumously vacated 70 years after his execution, because the circuit court judge ruled that he had not been given a fair trial; he had no effective defense and his Sixth Amendment rights had been violated. The judgment noted that while Stinney may in fact have committed the crime, the prosecution and trial were fundamentally flawed. Judge Mullen ruled that his confession was likely coerced and thus inadmissible. She also found that the execution of a 14-year-old constituted “cruel and unusual punishment.”

Media Statement: Open Letter to The Will County Sheriff asking for recusal in the Homicide investigation of Semaj Crosby

For immediate Release Media Statement: Open Letter to The Will County Sheriff asking for recusal in the Homicide investigation of Semaj Crosby(Media Briefing)

Dear State Officials,

“We are deeply concerned that after one year to date of the murder-that the death of this child has not yet been resolved. Our concerns are furthered by the fact that those who are responsible have not been prosecuted-adding to the concern is the fact that there is already an apparent wealth of known public information about Semaj Crosby’s death.

“Over the course of the past year-The Will County Sheriff’s Department has had extremely broad discretion over the scope and conduct of this investigation as well as final say over whether to bring federal charges against individuals who may be responsible.

However limited, The Will County Sheriff Department has worked inside the local community to collect various information on those who are being investigated…We believe-the revelations of the past year regarding this investigation has been a considerable disappointment, as well as a major blow to public confidence and more specifically, the local Will County law enforcement institutions and to the integrity of public security.

We must now urge-That the allegations must be met with a thorough, complete and impartial examination. Given the fact that the Will County Sheriff Department has missed critical opportunities to push forward with this investigation, we urge that Will County Sheriff’s Department now recuse itself going forward, and hand this investigation over to more qualified investigative hands being the State of Illinois.” Even, the Will County Sheriff’s support of more qualified State investigators would be a welcomed and necessary change.

Lastly, “A thorough ethics investigation is needed into malfeasance, conflict of interest, or any potential violations resulting from The Will County Sheriffs Investigation into the Homicide of Semaj Crosby and any person or groups that had effects of influence and have hampered this investigation.”

For the record my office will proceed with official complaint procedure at the Attorney Generals Office-I would hope to schedule a conference or meeting in the following days, to discuss options.

Sincerely, Bishop Gregg L.Greer

Freedom First International Media Statement to advocacy, media, community. RE: Semaj Crosby

11391266_995337397173027_5247468632435086671_n

Today,  we have entered into a new stage of our Advocacy with the fight “Justice for Baby Semaj Crosby.” The Semaj Crosby Coalition for Justice (on facebook) has now been formed-soon, we expect to began having actions and public education events on the ground.

The message from the concerned Family of baby Semaj:

For the Crosby’s- It is physically and emotionally draining to be called upon to prove that systems exist-that are working against us. For many, family, advocacy, and community- just struggling to keep this child’s name clear as we fight for “justice” is a task within it’s self. So we now say enough is enough. Now we must ask everyone to break clear of  innuendo as we want Justice and to move forward as much as any “grieving” family can who losses a loved one.

Freedom First International has laid out the following bullet points:

  1. The Father of Semaj Crosby is fighting for Justice for his daughter! James Crosby now has support of family, and community who also want to see justice to move on with their lives.
  2. No one should be speaking officially for the family except those authorized by the family-in an effort to stay clear of confusion with a very complex and very difficult situation.
  3. Many People in the community who want to help can do so by simply supporting by joining groups who are progressive.
  4. God Mother (Parents) is not an authorized representative of the Crosby Family or Estate of Semaj Crosby. We would ask out of respect for Baby Semaj Crosby-that no Media, Social Justice Organizations, and Community members give a forum to God Mother or any unauthorized representative of the Estate of Semaj Crosby. (This request is also being made for obvious legal reasons)

Can anyone fully explain why they would think that they are at an unfair disadvantage when in reality it’s not about them-the public must know the truth. Imagine watching a countess flurry of homemade “You Tude” video’s where a young seemingly “misguided” woman with an “alleged” but rather dubious and checkered history-claims to be representing the family, and also the Estate of Semaj Crosby. Many in the community believe-This verbal contest has constructed for “personal gain.” Unfortunately, We are forced day by day to engage with the idea that there are none (but you) actually advocating for Semaj-when the truth is the family loved this baby in “life” that love continues in the “afterlife.” The community has been truly mislead and some are now smearing the family. If that were not enough- it is also widely believed that this person has compromised much of the investigation of the death of Baby Semaj-a fact which local authorities fully agree.

It is incredibly painful to have to advocate for this child and address those who wish to continue on a downward path of confusion. None of the Confusion is needed or warranted.

Going forward our Prayer is that in the short turn Semaj Crosby will have her “Justice.” We hope that the light and love that she gave will help brighten dark paths for other children and those who are in need. This must and will be legacy of Semaj Crosby!

Best, Regards-Caring Community, Family and Advocacy for Semaj Crosby!
