Chicago Community Activist Leaders will protest against Gucci -because we believe it’s obvious” that “they (Gucci) doesn’t have a clue” when it comes to “racist, blackface hateful imagery.”

Last week, Gucci stopped selling its $890 balaclava black-knit women’s sweater that could be pulled up over the lower half of the wearer’s face. The sweater included bright red lips as a cut-out for the mouth.

The sweater was being sold in Gucci stores and online before social media users denounced it as resembling blackface.

The criticism comes as old photos of prominent Virginia politicians in blackface have embroiled the country in debate.

Taken from the Freedom First International Page:

Freedom First Internal, Violence Interrupters, Tikkon Chai International (The Humanitarian Project)  along with partner organizations is now calling for a community ban and a boycott of the designer brand over its wool balaclava jumper, which features an over-sized neck with a red cutout for the mouth.

While Gucci has made an apology we believe that apology is not enough for  taken to social media in protest of the Italian fashion house.

“In Memoriam” George Stinney Jr. October 21, 1929 -June 16, 1944

George Stinney Jr.

Freedom First International, The Guilty in Innocence Project and affiliates-honor the life of George Stinney Jr.

An African-American young boy, George Stinney Jr., who was executed at age 14 in the killing of two young white girls has been exonerated in South Carolina, 70 years after he became the youngest person executed in the U.S. in the 1900s. A judge ruled he was denied due process.

In her ruling, Circuit Judge Carmen Mullen wrote that she found that “fundamental, Constitutional violations of due process exist in the 1944 prosecution of George Stinney, Jr., and hereby vacates the judgment.”

The case was brought by George Frierson of Manning, SC and his group known as-A New Day, and afterward assistance come with testimony from Stinney’s surviving siblings.

Our organization started in 2011 working  behind the scenes and on the ground with public rallies, and well as memorials. Also addition we help galvanize the international media and some legal research to bring further attention to this case-up-to the point of his exoneration.

Another role we primarily accepted at the time was supporting George Frierson and his group with the memorial rededication which happened on July 16, 2016.  We like to thank George Frierson, Jennifer Bowers Olin, the Stinney Family and all organizations and advocates who helped overturn Georges conviction.

On December 17, 2014, his conviction was posthumously vacated 70 years after his execution, because the circuit court judge ruled that he had not been given a fair trial; he had no effective defense and his Sixth Amendment rights had been violated. The judgment noted that while Stinney may in fact have committed the crime, the prosecution and trial were fundamentally flawed. Judge Mullen ruled that his confession was likely coerced and thus inadmissible. She also found that the execution of a 14-year-old constituted “cruel and unusual punishment.”
